My name is Marlin Gerken and I am a writer and artist.
As soon as I could reach, I grabbed pen and brush. As soon as I could read and write, I began to write. Feeling and imagination guided my creative work from the beginning. Today I call my drive intuition, which helps me to put feelings, thoughts, observations, associations and impressions on paper and canvas or to record them in writing. One of the greatest inspirations for me is nature.
Nature has been with me since the beginning of my life in two ways: first, my parents, who are both biologists, imparted reality-based details of the animal and plant world to me from an early age, training my perception of the small things that constantly surround us but are easily overlooked. Second, I have spent most of my life away from big cities, surrounded by nature. During the seven years we lived in Portugal, I was constantly in the middle of the Portuguese savannah. I also learned early about the landscapes of Germany, Spain, and France, and often found myself philosophizing out the window during long car rides. Who is surprised at my enthusiasm for the painters and writers of the Romantic period?
Ordinary schooling was tiring for me, as it was for most other children. And so, during the time of my Abitur / Matura, I preferred to write a book, which I published already one year later under the name “The White Poet”. In the last years my most important works so far were created, although my studies temporarily prevented me from painting and writing more. Currently I am studying sociology. My interest in society, consciousness, philosophical and psychological topics is great and wide-ranging. However, it is of great concern to me to express my thoughts in my works as well. Therefore, it can be useful to look at my book and my paintings from an analyzing perspective. Art and literature should have content and not simply serve as mere entertainment.
